Testimonies from Goli Otok, Vol. 1 (Голооточки сведоштва) by Dimče Najčeski (Dimche Najcheski), published in Skopje in 1999, is a significant historical work documenting the experiences of Macedonian political prisoners sent to the notorious Goli Otok prison in Yugoslavia.
The book compiles first-hand accounts of the brutal conditions, forced labor, and psychological torment endured by inmates, many of whom were imprisoned following the 1948 Informbiro split between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union.
It highlights the stories of prominent figures, including members of the ASNOM assemblies, such as Panko Brashnarov and Venko Markovski, who were among those persecuted. The work sheds light on the systemic repression in Yugoslavia, where Macedonia ranked fourth in the number of arrests proportional to its population. Naјcheski’s book serves as a poignant record of human rights abuses and the resilience of those who survived the camp’s harsh regime.
