The Assassinations in Salonica 1903 is a historical monograph by Krste Bitoski, a prominent Macedonian historian. The book examines the bombing campaign conducted in Thessaloniki (then Solun) by the anarchist group known as the Boatmen of Thessaloniki (or Gemidzhii) from April 28 to May 1, 1903.
Composed mainly of young Macedonians influenced by anarchist ideology, the group targeted Ottoman infrastructure, including the Ottoman Bank, a French steamer, the Alhambra Theater, and city utilities, to draw international attention to Ottoman oppression in Macedonia and provoke European intervention.
Bitoski details the group's formation, members (such as leader Yordan Popyordanov, Pavel Shatev, and Milan Arsov), actions, and consequences, including Ottoman reprisals like massacres in Thessaloniki and Bitola, which devastated local Bulgarian communities.
