50 Years Since the Earthquake in Skopje; Skopje 1963–2014; Skopje – Ancient or Modern is a collected volume dedicated to the catastrophic earthquake of 26 July 1963 and the city’s long reconstruction . The book brings together historical chronicles, eyewitness accounts, journalistic texts, and analyses of Skopje’s urban development.
Particular attention is given to the first hours after the disaster, the rescue efforts, the role of the army, police, and citizens, and the international response. It documents both the human tragedy and the wave of solidarity and global assistance that followed.
The later sections examine the reconstruction of the city and the modernist vision behind it, including the plan by Kenzo Tange and subsequent urban debates. The volume has a documentary and analytical character and serves as a source on the history of the catastrophe, reconstruction, and identity discussions surrounding modern Skopje.
