Byzantines – Way of Life is a university textbook based on lectures delivered to history and archival studies students . Instead of focusing on military and political events, the book centers on everyday life and the human dimension within the Eastern Roman Empire.
Particular attention is given to the concept of Byzantium, the issue of continuity with the Roman Empire, and the diverse interpretations in modern Byzantine studies. The author discusses debates on Roman heritage, Christian ideology, and the ecumenical vision of imperial authority as the spiritual center of a broader Christian world.
The volume also examines geography, political organization, and social structure, with emphasis on the nobility and peasantry as foundational elements of the state. It serves as a synthetic teaching text that introduces students to the social and cultural history of Byzantium beyond traditional narratives of wars and dynasties.
