History of the Macedonian People, Vol. 1 is a collective work by multiple authors under the editorial direction of the Institute of National History, published in Skopje in 1969. The book covers the earliest periods of development in Macedonia, from prehistory to the end of the eighteenth century, establishing a foundation for understanding the historical continuity of the Macedonian people
Particular attention is given to natural-geographical conditions, prehistoric development, and early social formations, as well as the role of Macedonia as a space of important cultural and communication links in the Balkans. The work outlines processes of settlement, economic development, and cultural interaction across different historical stages, with emphasis on the gradual formation of social structures.
The book has a synthetic and scholarly character and represents one of the first systematically developed historiographical works on the Macedonian past. As a source, it holds significant value for studying early historical periods, methodological approaches in Macedonian historiography, and the development of scholarly thought in the second half of the twentieth century.
