Mečkin Kamen by Krsto A. Topuzoski is a historical and commemorative booklet published by the Historical Museum of Kruševo, dedicated to the Ilinden Uprising and the defense of the Kruševo Republic . The work follows the events of 2 and 3 August 1903, focusing on the role of Pitu Guli and his detachment in holding the positions at Mechkin Kamen.
Particular attention is given to the battle against the Ottoman forces of Bakhtiar Pasha, the speeches and calls of the insurgents, and the symbolism of “Freedom or Death.” The narrative reconstructs the confrontation, the death of 49 insurgents led by Pitu Guli, and the destruction of Kruševo, presenting Mečkin Kamen as a site of collective sacrifice and historical memory.
The final sections examine the memorialization of the event, from interwar commemorations to the observances in 1943 and the later erection of the monument. The booklet serves as a local historical overview and as a source for understanding how the Ilinden tradition has been preserved in the collective memory of Kruševo.
