The Cultural Heritage in the Debar and Reka Region is a richly illustrated field survey produced as part of a local-development pilot project for Debar and Reka. It documents and analyzes the region’s archaeological sites, sacral Christian monuments such as churches, frescoes and icons, Ottoman and Islamic monuments including mosques and Ottoman civil architecture, and profane vernacular architecture in villages and town.
It also treats intangible heritage and traditional crafts, notably woodcarving, provides photo documentation and maps, and offers recommendations for conservation, revitalization and sustainable use. The publication grew out of heritage work carried out from 2010 to 2016 under Council of Europe-supported activities.
